The Truth About Viral Skincare
Dear readers,
In the last few years, every single time I am on TikTok or Instagram, I am scrolling through reels showing off „best skin care hacks“, „tips“, or „Korean skincare“. Tbh, I am always a bit skeptical, but I am also really easy to influence.
So, in today’s post, I will tell you my opinion on different skin care products I’ve tried lately. I am sharing my opinion because every skin is different, and if something works or doesn't work for me, it doesn’t mean that your skin would love or hate it too.
Nivea Soft
I am starting with a classic. This is the „softer“ version of THE most iconic cream. I am quite sure that if you ask your grandma what she was using when she was young (or maybe even now), she will definitely say this cream. I personally love the classic blue version, but my TikTok feed has been full of Nivea Soft. People were usually mad at changes in the ingredient list after the brand decided to remake this cream for a fully vegan formula, and I heard from videos that it is not as good compared to how it was before. I can say that because I tried it only after the change, but I need to say I don’t have any negative things to say about this cream. It is easier to rub it on the skin, it’s not clogging my pores, and they’re even making an SPF 15 version. Is it the best cream I have ever tried? Probably not, but I need to say I was really surprised, especially for this price range.
PDRN
For the first time, I heard about PDRN from Kim Kardashian, and I remember thinking: „Well, first it was snail mucin, and now it’s salmon sperm? Why would people rub or even inject DNA from salmon into their faces?“ Well… I am here like a year and a half later, and I need to say it is pretty effective. I tried it in different forms, from serums and creams to sheet masks. It changed my texture and helped me even out my skin tone. For me, the serum form was the most effective form of PDRN.
Hypochlorous acid
Everything started with that TikTok where the Tower 28 spray went viral, and after that, other brands like Medicube or even Boots started following this trend. It was sold out everywhere. At the start, people were trying to find cheaper products that have hypochlorous acid in them as well. They were successful, and now even sanitary sprays for babies are sold out because people are using them as skincare. After a few days of using the spray with this ingredient, I get why my skin healed so well and looks almost like glass. So, it is definitely worth it.
Medicube collagen mask
I was really skeptical about this product. I wasn’t sure how comfortable it would be to sleep in a sheet mask that is drying on your face, plus whether the glass effect from the video is real. When I saw the price for this machine for the first few months, when the mask wasn’t even in drugstores and was selling only online, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to try it. After a few months, when this viral mask came to the UK for the first time, I was screaming. Yes, I love it, and yes, it has a perfect dewy glass effect. I was scared that if I washed my face, the moisture effect would be gone, but it wasn't, and I personally felt how my skin was perfectly nourished for the next few days. Now I am obsessed with this mask, and I see why it went viral. In my opinion, if you want to try just one thing from this post, try this mask.
Purito gel cream
Around this cream was a massive boom on social media, and I saw so many videos showing how it helped so many people with acne and with uneven skin tone, and how perfect this cream is. Well, I have a different opinion personally. When I started using this product, I started to have small pimples on my face, which was weird in my opinion because I hadn’t had a pimple for like 5 years, maybe even more. I continued to use it and suddenly my face was dry, matte, looking really bad, and I wasn’t sure why. After like two weeks, I decided to stop using this cream, and I need to say I will probably never use it again because it completely damaged my skin barrier. This is my personal experience, and if somebody loves it, I am so glad for you, it just wasn’t for me.
With Love,
Tyna
