What to read in Autumn?🍂
Autumn is a magical part of the year, the fresh air, the scent of rain-damp leaves, and the quiet ritual of wrapping yourself in a blanket with a warm drink in hand. This season literally calls for a good mystery or crime read, with a little hint of darkness, which will make every page turn irresistible.
Here are our tips or books which we plan to read this autumn.
The Naturals series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Think of it as Criminal Minds meets young adult fiction. A group of teens with special abilities who are in training to help the FBI. Every book hides multiple murders, or maybe even a serial killer? A perfect binge-read for chilly nights, with many clever plot twists in each book.
Belladonna by Adalyn Grace
A gothic young adult fantasy full of secrets, Death as a love. Nineteen-year-old Signa Farrow has grown up surrounded by death, each of her guardians meeting a mysterious end.
When she arrives at Thorn Grove to live with the Hawthorne family, she’s drawn into a world of glittering parties, dark secrets, and a whisper of poison. To uncover the truth, Signa must trust not only a brooding stable boy but also Death himself. If you loved the vibes of Wednesday on Netflix, you’ll like Belladonna.
The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown
The latest novel by Dan Brown follows Robert Langdon to Prague, a city renowned for its rich history and enduring mysteries. As London, New York, and Prague collide, Langdon must unravel ancient secrets hidden in its labyrinthine streets and shadowy dark passages.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt
No book captures dark academia quite like this one. This novel follows a group of ambitious college students and a murder. It is full of suspense, complex characters, and chilling twists. This novel explores how far people will go to protect their darkest secrets. This is the ultimate fall read, perfectly paired with knitwear and cups of tea.
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
For those who loved The Secret History vibe or Dark Academy style and crave more. Shakespeare, theatre, and friendship, which leads to tragedy. The roles which actors play on stage begin to mirror the darkness in their lives. This book is about friendship, betrayal, and the fine line between art and life.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
Another book in the dark academia style, and for us, it definitely evokes those autumn vibes. ’Ninth House’ by Leigh Bardugo takes us to Yale, where protagonist Alex Stern finds herself entangled in elite secret societies, forbidden magic, and deadly conspiracies. The story is full of suspense, dark rituals, and an academic world that hides far more than it seems.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
A young adult true-crime story, which is the start of a really breathtaking series. In short, if you enjoy podcasts, true crime, romance and the perfect plot twist and you want everything to turn out just as it should, this book is for you.
The Pumpkin Spice Latte series by Laurrie Gilmore
We have already mentioned this book, so we won’t go into detail, but we had to include this book because it’s perfect for autumn. Same as any book from the Dream Harbor series. This series is for you if you love the scent of cinnamon, romance, falling colourful leaves, and curling up with a book under a cosy blanket, accompanied by a mug of spiced tea or a latte.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
Mika Moon is one of the few witches in Britain, and she must hide her magic and follow the rules. Except for her secret online account, where she pretends to be a witch. When she’s unexpectedly invited to Nowhere House to teach three young witches, she breaks all the rules and becomes entangled in the lives and secrets. This story is full of funny moments, but it is also filled with a lot of romance.
Hex at the City by Kate Johnson
If Sex and the City met Hocus Pocus, this book would be the result. This book follows Poppy, a British witch, whose accidental curse on a pendant drags her and the charming illusionist Axl Storm into magical chaos. And with her three witchy roommates, they chase mischievous creatures across Britain and live a supernatural adventure.
