What we read in June
We know not everyone is a bookworm, but around here, we consider reading one of the ultimate forms of self-care. Whether it’s a late-night escape into fiction or a morning dose of motivation, we always keep a book nearby.
So welcome to our new monthly series “What We Read in…” where we share the reads that made us giggle, think, dream, or even cry (just a little). Here's what kept our noses buried in pages this month:
The Pumpkin Spice Café - By Laurie Gilmore
Imagine a world where every neighbour knows your name, your aunt randomly gifts you a café, and falling in love happens by chapter one. Welcome to the charming universe of The Pumpkin Spice Café, a small-town romance that feels like a warm sweet latte in book form.
This is the first book in the series, and we’re already hooked. Each book follows different characters in the same adorable town. Stories are full of overlapping lives and cosy businesses.
This book follows a woman who inherits her aunt’s café and decides to stay and give the place (and her life) a fresh start. What didn’t we expect? The romance really kicks in at the start of the book. But with farmers, fall vibes, cats and a touch of mystery, we couldn’t complain.
You should definitely read this book if you love Gilmore Girls, autumnal playlists, cats with attitude, and heart-fluttering small-town charm.

The Daily Laws - By Robert Greene
This one is for the self-development-minded people (and anyone who feels a little lost lately).
Robert Greene (also author of The 48 Laws of Power) gives us The Daily Laws, a book structured like a yearly diary. No chapters. Just one powerful lesson per day. It’s meant to be read across 365 days… but we couldn’t resist and finished it in two weeks (classic).
Each page gives you something to think about, starting with a mindset shift, a confidence boost, or a reminder of what really matters. It’s raw, real, and oddly comforting. Plus, the quotes? 10/10.
Read this book if you’re feeling stuck, uninspired, or like you need a little tough love and big vision energy.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo - By Taylor Jenkins Reid
If Old Hollywood glamour, complex female characters and secrets wrapped in silk robes are your thing, this book was made for you.
The story begins when a young journalist is asked to do an interview with Evelyn Hugo, a mysterious and iconic film star now living in a pension. But instead of a simple article, Evelyn has a proposition: she’ll tell her entire life story, with all the scandal and truth, but with one condition. It will only be published after her death.
Each chapter takes us deeper into her past, her seven marriages, and the love that changed everything. It’s juicy, emotional, cinematic, full of drama and beautifully told.
You should read it if you love dramatic plot twists and stories that stay with you long after the last page.

Because there’s nothing better than a good story and a cup of something warm (unless it’s iced, we get it, it’s June). We’re always on the hunt for our next read, so if you have any tips, just leave your recommendations on our Instagram @eesome.magazine.
Enjoy your reading and see you next month.
